IMF warns U.S. Tariffs pose “significant risk” to global economy

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) is worried about new U.S. tariffs. They warn these measures could harm the fragile global economy.

On Thursday, IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva issued a statement. She said the IMF is still analyzing the tariffs' full impact. The U.S. government announced these tariffs on Wednesday.

Georgieva noted that the tariffs pose a significant risk to global growth. She stressed the importance of avoiding actions that could hurt the world economy.

She urged the U.S. and its trading partners to find a constructive solution to trade tensions. “We appeal to work together to reduce uncertainty,” she said.

The IMF will publish its assessment of the tariffs in its upcoming World Economic Outlook. This report will be released during the Spring Meetings later this month.

The IMF's warning reflects growing concerns among economists and leaders worldwide. They fear protectionist policies may disrupt supply chains and increase inflation. These issues could slow recovery in emerging markets as well.
