The Institute of Progressive Governance (IPG) urges the 2025 budget to outline how the NDC government will enhance tax administration using technology without increasing taxes.
It stresses structural reforms, including implementing Section 88(2)(b) of the PFM Regulation to improve accountability. Closing the revenue gap and improving tax audits are key priorities. The Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA) opposes new taxes but supports expanding the tax net.
The government, after approving the fiscal policy, reaffirmed commitments to economic stabilization, including removing the betting tax and COVID levy. Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson is expected to present strategies for boosting revenue and reducing spending.
The budget will also reflect the financial state inherited by the NDC while outlining policies for national development.
