The University of Ghana’s ISSER has called the government’s 2025 inflation target of 11.7% “ambitious,” emphasizing the need for strict policy discipline.

Director Prof. Peter Quartey noted that while inflation has dropped from 55% in 2022 to 23%, challenges persist due to both global shocks and domestic fiscal indiscipline. He stressed the importance of aligning fiscal and monetary policies and prioritizing agriculture to control inflation.

In the industrial sector, he welcomed tax reforms but warned that declining capital investment could hinder growth. He also raised concerns about Ghana’s reliance on gold and crude oil exports, with much of the revenue retained offshore.

Additionally, he cited illegal mining and climate change as threats to the cocoa sector. While praising initiatives like free tertiary education for persons with disabilities, he highlighted implementation and fiscal discipline as key challenges.
