Ing. Ludwig Annang Hesse is the new president of GhIE

Ing. Sophia Abena Tijani, an electrical engineer at VRA, won the election to become President-Elect of the Ghana Institution of Engineering (GhIE).

According to GhIE’s constitution, she will serve for two years under the current President, Ing. Ludwig Annang Hesse. After this period, she will take over from him.

During his investiture, Ing. Hesse delivered a speech titled "Engineering Our Future: Do it Well, Do it Right." He outlined four key pillars for his presidency from 2025 to 2027:

1. Governance and Institutional Development
2. Influencing Public Policy
3. Membership and Welfare
4. Partnership and Collaboration

Ing. Hesse thanked outgoing President Ing. Kwabena Bempong for his support and guidance. He noted that he was elected President-Elect at the 2023 AGM and would officially become President in 2025.

He expressed confidence in his preparation for this role after serving on the Executive Committee and Council under Ing. Bempong's leadership.

At the ceremony, Kenneth Gilbert Adjei, Minister of Works, Housing and Water Resources, spoke about this year’s conference theme: “Urbanization and Smart Cities: Engineering the Future of Ghana’s Cities.”

He emphasized engineering's vital role in developing sustainable cities as Ghana urbanizes rapidly.

Adjei highlighted how engineers can help achieve national development goals.

The Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Rt. Rev. Dr. Abraham Nana Opare Kwakye, was the Guest of Honor at the event.

He was joined by several other church leaders from the Presbyterian Church of Ghana.

The moderator prayed for Ing. Hesse and all GhIE members during the ceremony.

Outgoing President Ing. Bempong handed over the Presidential Chain to Ing. Hesse while sharing ten important pieces of advice.

He advised Hesse to:

1. Bridle his tongue.
2. Prioritize active listening.
3. Recognize diverse perspectives.
4. Lead with empathy and transparency.
5. Advocate for engineering professionals.
6. Uphold GhIE's core values.
7. Foster collaboration and inclusivity.
8. Empower young engineers.
9. Ensure financial sustainability for GhIE.
10. Leave a legacy with new Council members.

The Investiture ceremony attracted attendees from various engineering organizations across Africa including Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Liberia, South Africa, Kenya, Zambia, FAEO President, WAFEO President, ESOL President among others.
