‘Jobs are going to be affected’ – Trade expert warns of fallout from Trump tariffs

Appiah Kusi Adomako, West Africa Director for CUTS International, has raised alarms about potential job losses in Ghana following the U.S. imposition of a 10% tariff on exports.

He warned that the move could harm local industries that depend on the American market, particularly those under the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA).

Adomako pointed out that the expiry of AGOA this year adds to the uncertainty.

He urged Ghana to reduce its reliance on the U.S. and focus on diversifying export markets, particularly through the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), despite challenges like inadequate infrastructure.

He stressed the need for a strategic response to mitigate the impact on jobs and the economy.
