Journalists cautioned against propaganda spin on BoG matters

"Spreading misleading stories about the Bank of Ghana harms public perception. It also sends negative signals to investors. This ultimately affects Ghana’s investment efforts," he stated.

The workshop is part of the Bank of Ghana's initiative. It aims to improve media reporting on economic issues and monetary policy. The goal is to strengthen partnerships with journalists. This will help them create clear narratives about the bank's operations.

“Effective communication enhances our policy impact,” Mr. Otabil said. He emphasized that the Communications Department will support strong media relations. They aim to build platforms for better engagement with journalists.

He reaffirmed the bank's commitment to empowering journalists. They want to provide tools for accurate financial reporting, especially regarding Monetary Policy Committee decisions. “This training is ongoing,” he added, highlighting the importance of journalists in sharing their story.

Kofi Assan, Regional Manager of BoG, agreed with these points. He called journalists critical stakeholders in sharing accurate information with the public. “That’s why this training matters so much,” he noted.

Desmond Cudjoe, Chairman of the Ghana Journalists Association in the Western Region, praised BoG for this initiative. He believes it will greatly enhance journalists' ability to understand and report on finance-related topics effectively.
