Former Rector of GIMPA, Professor Stephen Adei, has advised the incoming Mahama administration to maintain the e-levy, highlighting its ease of collection as a key factor in Ghana's tax system.
This comes after National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate John Dramani Mahama promised to scrap several taxes, including the e-levy, within his first 100 days in office, arguing they burdened Ghanaians.
However, Professor Adei, an economist, warned that removing taxes like the e-levy, which are easier to collect, could worsen the country's tax compliance challenges.
He also urged Mahama to carefully manage expectations, as he believes President Akufo-Addo's downfall was due to his failure to manage public expectations effectively.
