Lands Minister Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah has called for a Fast-Track Court to swiftly prosecute illegal miners and environmental offenders.
Speaking on Joy News’ PM Express on March 19, he stressed that the slow legal process fails to deter offenders, endangering Ghana’s forests and water bodies.
Buah revealed that discussions with Attorney General Dr. Dominic Ayine and the Chief Justice have been positive, emphasizing that his ministry relies on law enforcement agencies for effective action.
The proposal comes amid rising concerns over illegal mining (galamsey), which has led to severe environmental damage. If implemented, the Fast-Track Court would ensure swift justice, marking a significant shift in Ghana’s environmental crime enforcement.
Buah urged immediate action, stating, “Without swift justice, our efforts to protect the environment will be in vain.”
