Dr. George Domfeh, a development economist, is advocating for heavy investment in Ghana’s agriculture sector to drive economic stability, job creation, and food security.

Speaking at the UPSA and IERPP Post-Budget Dialogue 2025 on March 14, he emphasized that Ghana’s overreliance on imported food has contributed to the Cedi’s depreciation due to the high demand for foreign currency. He argued that by boosting local production and exports, Ghana could strengthen the Cedi and reduce inflationary pressures.

Dr. Domfeh also linked Ghana’s current economic struggles to long-term policy failures dating back to independence in 1957. He stressed that instead of blaming only the current government, there should be a collective effort to prioritize agriculture and manufacturing as key drivers of economic transformation.

His remarks highlight the need for sustained agricultural policies, infrastructure development, and reduced import dependency to enhance Ghana’s economic resilience.
