Jeffrey Oppong Peprah, CEO of Volkswagen Ghana, has emphasized the importance of supporting locally assembled vehicles to sustain and grow Ghana’s automotive industry.
Speaking at the launch of VW Ghana’s new Amarok model, he praised the government’s 35% import tax on competing vehicles, calling it a positive step to promote local production and protect investments.
The Amarok, a robust 10-speed vehicle designed for challenging terrains, caters to personal and commercial needs, including mining. Highlighting its features, Oppong Peprah stated, “This car can even walk through waters,” showcasing its adaptability to tough environments.
He also stressed integrating the informal sector by providing education on vehicle repairs to ensure industry sustainability. Additionally, VW Ghana is collaborating with stakeholders to introduce incentivized loan rates for purchasing locally assembled cars, aiming to boost demand and support the sector’s growth.
