A recent forum on mineral development emphasized the need to direct mineral revenues to mining-affected communities. It also highlighted the importance of supporting traditional authorities and local governments for sustainable development.
Key stakeholders in the mining sector attended the event. They aimed to promote leadership that ensures mineral wealth uplifts local communities through lasting projects.
Dr. Bisiw-Kotey, Administrator of the Mineral Development Fund (MDF), spoke to the media. She noted a lack of progress over the past eight years but remains committed to President Mahama’s vision. This vision aims to address challenges faced by mining communities.
“The Mineral Development Fund can transform lives through sustainable projects,” she stated. Dr. Bisiw-Kotey condemned illegal mining activities for harming the environment and polluting water bodies.
She pledged her office would work with relevant institutions to combat illegal mining nationwide. Her commitment includes protecting the environment and safeguarding livelihoods.
The forum ended with a call for stronger collaboration among government agencies, traditional leaders, and community stakeholders. This collaboration aims to ensure effective and transparent use of mineral revenues for development.
