MobileMoney LTD, linked to MTN, has addressed a viral social media post. The post alleged unauthorized withdrawals from a customer's account. The customer claimed her mobile wallet was compromised without her consent. This raised concerns among users of the MobileMoney service.
In a statement, MobileMoney LTD acknowledged the report. They clarified that their investigation found it was a case of social engineering. This type of breach happens when customers unknowingly share sensitive information. This includes One-Time Passwords (OTPs) and other verification details with fraudsters.
MobileMoney LTD emphasized that users should never share their PINs or OTPs. They should also not share verification links with anyone, even if they claim to be from the company.
