Economist and Chairman of the National Economic Dialogue, Dr. Ishmael Yamson, has revealed that President John Mahama is committed to regular engagements with the private sector through a proposed Economic Council, which may convene quarterly upon the President's approval. This initiative aims to foster consistent dialogue with the private sector, serving as an "Open Door Policy."
Dr. Yamson emphasized the private sector's significant role in economic stabilization, noting that many firms allocate portions of their profits to corporate social responsibility initiatives, aiding infrastructure development.
He advocated for Public-Private Partnership initiatives to address infrastructure deficits and stressed the importance of creating a conducive environment with appropriate incentives for the private sector.
Regarding fiscal policy, Dr. Yamson urged the finance minister to prioritize fiscal discipline to expedite economic recovery. He highlighted the necessity of prudent expenditure and ensuring value for money to address current economic challenges effectively.
