Former Deputy Finance Minister Abena Osei Asare has criticized President John Dramani Mahama’s first State of the Nation Address (SONA) in his second term, calling it populist and unclear.
Delivered on February 27, 2025, the speech painted a bleak economic picture while pledging stability.
Osei Asare, also an MP for Atiwa East, accused Mahama of blame-shifting and failing to outline a credible funding plan for his proposed social interventions.
She found it contradictory that while describing the economy as in an “intensive care unit” (ICU), the President proposed ambitious expansionary policies without detailing how they would be financed.
Her remarks highlight growing concerns over economic sustainability and the feasibility of Mahama’s policies.
