Mahama to launch Ghana Labour Export Programme to boost youth employment

President John Dramani Mahama has announced the Ghana Labour Export Programme. This initiative aims to create overseas job opportunities for Ghana’s youth. It will do this through international employment partnerships.

Mahama spoke to residents in the Ahafo Region on Saturday, May 31. He is currently on his Thank You tour. He mentioned that the government is in talks with countries facing labour shortages. These discussions aim to help Ghanaian professionals secure fixed-term jobs abroad.

“We will soon launch the Ghana Labour Export Programme,” he said. “Many countries have labour shortages. We are negotiating with them to export our professionals.”

The programme will cover various sectors, including agriculture and healthcare. Targeted job categories include electricians, nurses, and drivers. Mahama revealed that an agreement has been signed with one country for 2,000 temporary workers.

He stressed that recruitment will be fair and transparent. All 16 regions of Ghana, including Ahafo, will be represented. “Young qualified people will be selected fairly from all regions,” he assured.

The Ghana Labour Export Programme aims to tackle youth unemployment. It seeks to improve livelihoods by tapping into global workforce demand.
