Samuel Twumasi, a 37-year-old driver, cried when an Accra Circuit Court discharged him. He faced charges of conspiracy and two counts of defrauding by false pretenses.
During the hearing, Chief Inspector Wisdom Alorwu told the court to discharge Twumasi. The police lacked enough evidence to prosecute him. Mr. Samuel Bright Acquah presided over the court and agreed to discharge Twumasi.
After his release, Twumasi wept as he left the dock. Some police officers tried to comfort him with words like “Barima nsu.” However, he could not stop crying.
Twumasi had been unable to fulfill his bail conditions and was in police custody. He was on trial alongside Isaac Danso, a 38-year-old communication consultant, who faced the same charges.
Danso was not present when Twumasi was discharged. The prosecution informed the court that Danso had been re-arrested and was in custody at Kasoa.
With Twumasi's discharge, Danso would now stand trial alone. He is accused of collecting $4,000 from Adinan Lamidi for a Canadian visa but failed to deliver.
Additionally, he allegedly took $2,000 from Marwan Mustapha under similar pretenses but did not follow through. Both men were arrested on September 15, 2024.
