Dr. Daniel McKorley, known as McDan, has been named Salt Mining CEO of the Year. This award highlights his key role in revitalizing Ghana’s salt industry. It also supports the country’s broader industrialization goals.
As Executive Chairman of Electrochem Ghana Limited, Dr. McKorley has transformed the Songor Lagoon. This facility is now Africa’s largest salt production site.
Electrochem Ghana produces 650,000 metric tons of salt each year. The company plans to increase production to one million metric tons by 2024 and two million by 2027. The salt produced has a purity level of 99.99%, meeting international standards.
Dr. McKorley is committed to community development as well. Electrochem Ghana has created over 3,000 local jobs and aims to reach 7,000 as operations grow.
The company invests in local infrastructure too. This includes roads, health clinics, schools, and a GH¢3 million interest-free loan scheme for small businesses.
Despite facing political opposition and challenges, Dr. McKorley’s leadership has reshaped the salt industry. His efforts showcase the potential of local entrepreneurship for sustainable national development.
