Minister-designate for Energy, John Jinapor, clarified to the parliamentary appointments committee that his claim of Ghana having only 5 hours of fuel reserves referred specifically to Heavy Fuel Oil (HFO) and not the country’s overall fuel reserves.
He acknowledged that CenPower, a key power producer, had up to 23 days of fuel reserves as of President Mahama's inauguration on January 7, 2025.
Mr. Jinapor addressed concerns over media misrepresentation, emphasizing his accurate account of 5 hours of HFO and zero reserves of Distillate Fuel Oil (DFO) for Sunon Asogli.
He warned that this shortfall could lead to load shedding during upcoming pipeline maintenance by the West African Gas Pipeline Company (WAPCo) from January 20 to February 16, 2025.
He criticized the previous government for failing to replenish liquid fuel stocks, potentially causing severe power deficits.
