Dr. Doliwura Zakaria, Managing Director of National Investment Bank PLC (NIB), has received an honour as a Peace Ambassador. This recognition comes from the Cardinal Onaiyekan Foundation for Peace (COFP).
The award was presented during the graduation ceremony of the Foundation’s 2024/25 Fellowship Program. This event took place in Abuja, Nigeria, on May 17, 2025.
This honour reflects Dr. Zakaria’s commitment to peacebuilding and social justice. His participation in the fellowship focused on interfaith dialogue and conflict resolution. It renewed his purpose to serve as a banker and traditional leader.
The COFP Fellowship is led by His Eminence John Cardinal Onaiyekan. It brings together individuals from various faiths to learn peaceful conflict resolution. Participants become champions of justice in their communities through shared experiences.
At the ceremony, Dr. Zakaria expressed gratitude to Cardinal Onaiyekan and the COFP community. He noted that the program shaped his leadership style and perspective on faith's role in healing divisions.
He pledged to use his platform as Managing Director of NIB and Traditional Leader of Kusawgu people to promote peace. He aims to combat human trafficking and modern slavery in vulnerable communities in northern Ghana.
“This recognition is not just mine,” he stated, “it belongs to everyone committed to building a more peaceful society.”
As part of his commitment, Dr. Zakaria organized a workshop in Tamale on February 21, 2025. The workshop focused on migration, human trafficking, and modern-day slavery.
It gathered community leaders, religious figures, and civil society representatives for discussions. They explored ways to raise awareness and push for systemic change.
The workshop concluded with a joint communiqué led by Dr. Zakaria and Sheikh Abdul Mumin Dalhu. Participants pledged to educate their communities about human trafficking dangers.
The title of Peace Ambassador represents a movement among leaders in Ghana advocating for dialogue and compassion as tools for change. In challenging times for underserved areas, Dr. Zakaria's work highlights that peacebuilding must be proactive and community-driven.
