NPA CEO engages tanker drivers in Western Region, unveils measures to address industry challenges

Godwin Edudzi Tameklo, the Acting CEO of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), visited the Western Region. He met with tanker drivers and other stakeholders in the petroleum sector. The meeting took place at the Takoradi depot.

This visit is part of his strategy to engage with industry players. He aims to understand their operational difficulties across the country.

During the meeting, Mr. Tameklo thanked tanker drivers for their vital role. They ensure safe and efficient transportation of petroleum products nationwide.

He announced that the NPA will implement a Driver Remuneration Formula soon. This formula addresses tanker drivers' concerns about their wages.

Mr. Tameklo acknowledged several challenges they face. These include poor road conditions, high operational costs, and safety issues at loading terminals.

He outlined strategies to improve these conditions. Key access routes to depots will be rehabilitated. Safety standards and loading protocols will be reviewed as well.

Additionally, digital tracking systems will be introduced for better transparency in fuel distribution. Mr. Tameklo also plans to strengthen collaboration with government agencies.

This collaboration aims to resolve infrastructural issues affecting tanker operations quickly. The drivers received this engagement positively and felt hopeful about future improvements.

They urged the NPA to maintain open dialogue with transport unions. They want promises made to lead to real changes.

This visit highlights the NPA’s commitment to building strong relationships in the industry. It also aims to protect Ghana's petroleum supply chain integrity.
