Dr. Mustapha Abdul-Hamid, CEO of Ghana's National Petroleum Authority (NPA), emphasized the regulator's commitment to supporting businesses in the petroleum downstream sector while maintaining fair practices and consumer protection.
Speaking during a UK-Ghana Chamber of Commerce webinar, he highlighted initiatives like the Receivables Committee, forex auctions to stabilize exchange rates, and the "Gold for Oil" program to mitigate volatility and ease consumer burden.
Dr. Abdul-Hamid outlined reforms under a pending NPA bill, including licensing regulations for natural gas and criminalizing unlicensed operations. The NPA is advancing ISO certification and leveraging technology, like the Automatic Tank Gauging System, for efficient fuel distribution.
He also urged consumers to verify fuel quantities using standardized tools and report discrepancies. The webinar addressed deregulation, licensing, and Ghanaian content regulation in the petroleum industry.
