The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) is committed to social responsibility.
Acting Chief Executive Godwin Kudzo Tameklo led a delegation to the Volta Region. They donated relief items to victims of recent tidal waves in Ketu South Municipality.
These tidal waves caused destruction in Agavedzi, Salokope, and Amutinu. Many properties were damaged, and lives were lost. Survivors had to sleep outside for several nights.
Fishermen and traders, vital to the local economy, are struggling. They face challenges in rebuilding their lives after the disaster.
In response, the NPA provided essential relief items. These included student mattresses and two sleeper camp tents. The aim was to ease the burden on affected families.
Mr. Tameklo expressed hope that these items would help victims. He also encouraged other organizations to offer support.
The donation was received by Volta Regional Minister James Gunu on behalf of the victims.
The Minister praised the NPA for its quick response. He emphasized that more institutions should assist affected communities.
“The impact of these tidal waves has been devastating,” he said. “Many people have been displaced, and children have been forced out of school.” He added that NPA’s support brings hope and urged others to help as well.
During his visit, Mr. Tameklo met with Togbe Afede XIV, Agbogbomefia of Asogli traditional Area. He also spoke with key stakeholders like the Volta Regional Security Council about petroleum-related challenges.
Additionally, he inspected an underground LPG refilling plant in Hohoe. This plant is the first of its kind in Ghana. He urged operators to follow safety regulations to protect lives and investments.
