Dr. John Kwakye, Director of Research at the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA), has praised the formation of the National Economic Dialogue (NED) Planning Committee, chaired by Dr. Ishmael Yamson, calling it crucial for building consensus on Ghana's economic future and reducing dependence on debt and IMF bailouts.
The committee aims to communicate Ghana’s economic state, develop a fiscal consolidation plan, and propose key reforms. However, concerns have been raised, notably by Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, who fears the dialogue may be used to backtrack on promises made by the new administration, which could damage public trust.
While he supports the dialogue’s idea, he urges that its recommendations be actionable and not repeat past failures of similar forums.
