Benjamin Arthur Benjamin Arthur

The Fair Wages and Salaries Commission reports that Ghana saved GH₵345 million in the first phase of a nationwide payroll monitoring exercise covering 120 public sector institutions across four regions. The initiative aimed to reduce the public sector wage bill and enhance transparency.

Benjamin Arthur, the Commission’s CEO, revealed on The Pulse Show that the exercise not only delivered significant financial savings but also improved productivity by gathering comprehensive data, conducting field monitoring, and reviewing payrolls.

Findings from 2023 and 2024 indicated that up to 8% of public sector expenditures could be saved.

Arthur also noted that the monitoring uncovered anomalies, such as some individuals not receiving their entitled allowances, providing valuable lessons for future improvements.
