New GSS boss Dr Alhassan Iddrisu pledges accurate, timely data for national development

At the 2025 IMF/World Bank Spring Meetings in Washington, he spoke about his goals. Strengthening the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) will be a key focus. Reliable data is vital for effective economic planning and resilience.

“Strengthening Ghana’s statistical systems is no longer a luxury,” he said. “It is a strategic imperative.” This improvement will help anticipate and respond to global shocks.

Dr. Iddrisu participated in a G-24 deputies meeting. He discussed the impact of global disruptions like climate change and trade tensions. He emphasized the need for data-driven solutions.

He noted that these global shocks create policy crises we must navigate. Statistical development is crucial for effective responses during these times.

Credible and disaggregated data are increasingly important, he stated. They help craft evidence-based policies and manage the macroeconomy effectively. Access to global finance also relies on high-quality data.

“For Ghana, timely and credible data has never been more relevant,” Dr. Iddrisu concluded. It supports policy-making, strengthens sectoral resilience, and aids in accessing global finance.
