Newspaper vendors in Ghana are struggling as sales decline due to frequent newspaper reviews on broadcast media and rising production costs. The Ghanaian Times recently raised its cover price to GH₵10.00, following similar increases by other newspapers.
Vendors at Orion Cinema, a major distribution hub, report dwindling sales, with some selling as few as 50 copies daily compared to 300 in the past. Veteran vendor Kwame Nyame suggests shifting newspaper reviews to the afternoon to boost sales.
Rising printing costs further burden publishers, forcing price hikes that discourage buyers. Despite this, some loyal readers still prefer physical newspapers.
Vendors fear that more price increases will worsen their situation, making it harder for them to sustain their trade.
