The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has officially abolished the 1% Electronic Transfer Levy (E-Levy), effective midnight on April 2, 2025.
This follows presidential approval of the amended Electronic Transfer Levy Act, 2022. Financial institutions and mobile money operators must immediately stop charging the levy and refund any deductions made beyond the deadline.
Commissioner Edward Apenteng Gyamerah directed all charging entities to update their systems accordingly, warning of penalties for non-compliance.
The GRA’s monitoring system will automatically reflect the change, ensuring transparency.
While the levy’s removal is expected to boost digital transactions and financial inclusion, institutions must still account for E-Levy collected before April 2.
Regular compliance checks will be conducted, and violations may result in legal action.
