The Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah, has announced a new framework making District Chief Executives (DCEs) fully accountable for enforcing mining regulations.

Speaking on Joy News’ PM Express on March 19, he stated that DCEs will actively oversee compliance once mining licenses are issued.

The framework integrates DISEC, regulatory agencies, and local communities in the licensing process. Unlike the previous fragmented system, this approach ensures thorough oversight and environmental protection.

President Mahama has set key performance indicators (KPIs) for DCEs, holding them responsible for violations. Before approval, affected communities must verify that mining sites do not threaten water bodies or forests.

The policy aims to curb illegal mining and environmental harm, with DCEs bearing full responsibility for enforcement. "No more excuses," the minister warned.
