Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has confirmed the government's commitment to the IMF program. He stated this during a press conference with the IMF in Accra on April 15.
Dr. Forson emphasized that the government believes in the program's objectives. He acknowledged that previous administrations missed some targets but assured commitment to meet current goals.
To achieve these goals, Dr. Forson outlined several measures. These include strengthening expenditure controls and eliminating arrears accumulation. The government also aims to improve budget credibility and enhance fiscal sustainability.
The Mahama government has commissioned an audit of payables and commitments. The Auditor-General will work with two international firms for this audit. It is expected to be completed within eight weeks.
Additionally, Ato Forson mentioned a recent amendment to the Procurement Act. This amendment requires commitment authorization from the Finance Minister for all central government procurements.
The government plans to launch a Public Financial Management Compliance League Table. This table will track and publish compliance levels of various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies under the PFM Act.
