‘Ofori-Atta promised to do his best to protect my bank but still collapsed it’ – Agongo

As President Nana Akufo-Addo’s Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta made a promise. He vowed to protect Heritage Bank from being collapsed by the Bank of Ghana. However, businessman Seidu Agongo claims he failed to keep that promise.

In a recent interview with Mero TV, Mr. Agongo shared his experience. He said that even his good relationship with Ofori-Atta could not save Heritage Bank. When he heard about the banking sector clean-up, he approached Ofori-Atta for help.

Agongo recalled saying, “You know me well and I don’t joke with my work.” He explained that he had invested heavily in building the bank. He asked Ofori-Atta for partners to ensure its success.

Ofori-Atta responded positively, saying he would protect Agongo's interests. Despite this assurance, Heritage Bank was still collapsed.

Agongo mentioned meeting Ofori-Atta and his wife after the collapse. Ofori-Atta introduced him as a hardworking young man. Agongo stated that he does not hold a grudge against him.

He believes decisions are sometimes made based on one's level of thinking. People may not intend to hurt others but act according to their understanding.

Using an example, Agongo explained how decisions can reflect one's mindset. If someone thinks broadly, they can see potential in others like Kwesi Afriyie. In contrast, narrow thinking leads to negative decisions.

Agongo suspects that Ofori-Atta might have a personal issue with him. He feels there are people who dislike him for various reasons, including his speech or success.

Despite these challenges, Agongo remains optimistic about opportunities for everyone. He believes anyone can achieve greatness regardless of their background or name.
