Okudzeto Ablakwa leads first-ever home delivery of passports in Ghana

In a significant step to modernize passport acquisition in Ghana, Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has launched a home delivery service. This initiative allows applicants to receive their newly issued passports at home. It marks the first nationwide passport home delivery service in the country.

Now, Ghanaians can get their chip-embedded biometric passports without visiting Passport Application Centres (PACs). This change eliminates the stress and delays that often come with collecting passports.

Mr. Ablakwa shared his excitement on Facebook after delivering passports with Ghana Post. He stated, “The stress of returning to PACs to pick up passports is no more.”

This week, over 5,000 passports will be delivered across all 16 regions of Ghana. The initiative aims to improve efficiency and accessibility in public service delivery.

It also seeks to reduce the backlog of uncollected passports. Mr. Ablakwa noted he inherited over 70,000 uncollected passports when he took office. He emphasized that this new service addresses frustrations and inconveniences related to passport collection.

The home delivery service is part of a broader digital transformation agenda by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration. This agenda aims to reform passport services to meet modern standards and better serve citizens' needs.
