Orange is partnering with OpenAI and Meta to expand digital inclusion in Africa by fine-tuning AI Large Language Models (LLMs) to understand regional African languages.

This initiative will initially focus on Wolof and Pulaar, spoken by millions in West Africa, and aims to improve customer support and services for local populations.

The fine-tuned AI models will be open-source and available for non-commercial use, supporting areas like public health and education.

The project, starting in 2025, aims to bridge the digital divide by making AI accessible to illiterate communities.

Orange also aims to develop responsible AI, focusing on simplicity, cost-efficiency, and environmental impact while enhancing AI accessibility across its 18-country African footprint.
