Our problems are not new, let’s address them with urgency – Deloitte boss to government

Daniel Kwadwo Owusu, the Country Managing Partner of Deloitte Ghana, is calling on the government to address urgent issues. These include high inflation, cedi depreciation, unemployment, and fiscal slippages.

He noted that these challenges are not new. While he praised the government's intent to rebuild the economy, he emphasized the need for long-term solutions.

Owusu spoke at the media launch of the 9th Ghana CEO Summit in Accra. He urged bold implementation of agriculture programs outlined in the 2025 Budget to combat high inflation.

Inflation remains a major concern. Food inflation was notably high at 22.4% in March 2025. He stressed that agriculture programs like "Feed Ghana" and "Feed the Industry" are crucial for job creation and self-sufficiency.

He also called for reduced imports of rice, corn, and poultry products. Owusu believes Ghana has the capacity to produce these items abundantly.

To tackle fiscal slippages, he advised improving procurement processes and enforcing Public Financial Management rules. Strengthening governance in public finance is essential.

Owusu advocated for aggressive fiscal consolidation by cutting wasteful spending. He suggested overhauling tax policy and implementing bold social programs in education and health to enhance human capital.

The 9th Ghana CEO Summit and Expo will take place on May 26, 2025, in Accra. The event will gather over 500 CEOs, business leaders, policymakers, and dignitaries from around the world.

This year's theme is “Leading Ghana’s Economic Reset: Transforming Business and Governance for a Sustainable Futuristic Economy.” It will feature a private-public sector CEO dialogue and high-impact learning sessions.
