The Presidential Initiatives in Agriculture and Agribusiness (PIAA) is launching a new program. They are partnering with the Ghana Education Service (GES) and GETFUND. This program is called the “School Farm Initiative.” Its goal is to turn unused school lands into productive farms.
Dr. Peter Boamah Otokunor announced this on Facebook on May 13, 2025. He is the Director of PIAA. A joint technical team has been formed for this initiative. This team will work with GES and GETFUND to start transforming idle lands in schools.
Dr. Otokunor explained that they recently met with GES about the initiative. The aim is to set up farms in high schools across Ghana. This will help increase food production in the country.
He also noted that this initiative aligns with former President John Dramani Mahama’s vision. It focuses on food sovereignty, skills transformation, and modernizing agriculture. The goal is to produce food for schools, reducing costs for procurement.
