Other problems included tampering with the electricity network and system overloads. Overgrown vegetation and weather effects also contribute to supply instability.
After the briefings, the Commission requested detailed reports from the utilities. These reports should cover current challenges and immediate solutions. The utilities must also outline long-term plans to prevent future issues.
The regulator stressed the importance of better communication with the public. This will help enhance transparency and build public confidence during disruptions.
Moving forward, the Commission will enforce strict compliance with performance standards. This aims to ensure reliable electricity supply across the country. Consumers are encouraged to report any service delivery challenges in their communities.
“The Commission is committed to protecting consumers and utility providers,” said the Executive Secretary. “We will monitor the power situation closely for quality service.”
Since taking office in January 2025, President John Dramani Mahama has recognized energy challenges. He emphasized finding sustainable solutions to avoid prolonged outages.
His government plans to address inefficiencies within ECG and improve revenue collection. They are inviting private sector participation in electricity billing as part of this effort.
Additionally, steps are being taken to reduce a US$2.5 billion debt owed to independent power producers by year-end.
