Painter accused of stealing Bank of Ghana cables granted GH¢1m bail  - Ghana Business News

A painter has been accused of stealing electrical cables at the Bank of Ghana building in Ridge.

Ahmed Mohammed Lawal was granted bail by an Accra Circuit Court. His bail is set at GH¢1 million with two sureties.

Judge Isaac Addo ordered the prosecution to follow disclosure rules. The case has been adjourned to May 7, 2025.

Lawal faces charges of unlawful entry and theft of cables worth GH¢1,035,500. He has denied these charges.

The prosecution, led by Assistant Superintendent of Police Agustin Kingsley Oppong, presented the case. The complainants are Samuel Nii Tettey and Davidson Mensah Otinkorang. They are a safety officer and an electrical engineer at the construction site.

On February 16, 2025, they discovered a break-in at the Energy Farm on site. Several copper cables were stolen, valued at GH¢1,035,500.

The prosecution reviewed CCTV footage showing Lawal and two others stealing the cables. The bundles were stored at the Energy Farm.

The complainants caught Lawal and turned him over to the police. Investigations revealed that he entered through a scaffold and cut the cables with a sharp object.

Lawal sold some of the stolen cables for GH¢2,000 at Kwame Nkrumah Circles. He could not lead police to his accomplices or the buyer.
