Duncan Amoah, Executive Secretary of the Chamber of Petroleum Consumers (COPEC), urged the government to closely monitor fuel pricing to prevent excessive increases that burden consumers.
His concerns follow three consecutive fuel price hikes at the start of 2025, with a price reduction in the second pricing window of February due to a drop in global crude oil prices.
Amoah emphasized that fuel pricing directly impacts transportation, inflation, and the economy, calling for government measures to mitigate sharp price hikes in the future.
He also raised concerns about the depreciation of the Cedi, which often offsets fuel price reductions. In the second pricing window of February, Total Energies and Shell both reduced their fuel prices.
