Petroleum Hub project will be a ‘game-changer’ for Ghana - Dr. Tony Aubynn

Dr. Tony Aubynn, CEO of the Petroleum Hub Development Corporation (PHDC), spoke about the Petroleum Hub project. He believes it can transform Ghana’s socio-economic landscape.

After a meeting with the Western Regional House of Chiefs on March 24, 2025, he shared his insights. Dr. Aubynn said the project will revolutionize Ghana’s energy sector. It will enhance all segments of the petroleum industry: upstream, midstream, and downstream.

He stated that Ghana is close to becoming a refining hub in West Africa. The project will cover about 20,000 acres dedicated to petroleum infrastructure. This includes refineries, petrochemical industries, and storage tank farms.

Dr. Aubynn highlighted the hub's potential for industrialization and economic growth. It aims to create value-added petroleum products and generate many job opportunities. This initiative will be the first of its kind in Africa.

He mentioned that over 700,000 direct and indirect jobs are expected from this project. This will bring significant economic benefits to Ghana.

Dr. Aubynn praised President John Dramani Mahama for supporting the project. He noted that the President is committed to making it successful despite challenges.

“The President has assured us of his full support,” he said confidently.

The Western Regional House of Chiefs supports this initiative wholeheartedly. Their President, Nana Kobina Nketiah IV, expressed confidence in Dr. Aubynn’s leadership. The chiefs recognize the economic benefits for Jomoro Municipality and the Western Region.
