President Mahama appoints Dr Alhassan Iddrisu as acting government statistician

President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Dr. Alhassan Iddrisu as Acting Government Statistician. This appointment is pending consultations with the Council of State.

A statement from the Presidency on April 4, 2025, recognized Dr. Iddrisu's expertise. He is a seasoned economist and public sector leader. He has a distinguished career in Ghana's Ministry of Finance.

The statement was signed by Felix Kwaky Ofosu, the President's Spokesperson and Minister for Government Communications. It noted that Dr. Iddrisu currently serves as Director of the Economics Strategy and Research Division. He leads national efforts in macroeconomic analysis and policy research.

Dr. Iddrisu provides technical guidance for the Ghana Macroeconomic Outlook Report. He also contributes to the National Budget and Economic Policy.

Additionally, he represents the Ministry on various boards and councils. His expertise influences key policy decisions on economic governance and development strategy.

Dr. Iddrisu has held multiple senior positions at the Director level. From 2013 to 2019, he was Director of the Economic Research and Forecasting Division (ERFD). He supervised national macroeconomic modeling during this time.

Before that, he served as Acting Director of the Real Sector Division from 2010 to 2013. In this role, he led research on sectoral growth trends.

He is also a part-time lecturer at the University of Professional Studies in Accra. Previously, he consulted for Oxfam GB and the World Bank.

Dr. Iddrisu holds a PhD in International Development Studies from Tokyo’s National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies. He earned a Master of Public Administration from the London School of Economics, an MPhil in Economics, and a BA in Economics with French from the University of Ghana.
