President Mahama launches major youth employment initiatives: Adwumawura and National Apprenticeship programme

President John Dramani Mahama has launched two important programs. These programs aim to reduce youth unemployment and promote entrepreneurship in Ghana.

Today, April 28, 2025, he introduced the Adwumawura Programme. This event took place at the Prempeh Assembly Hall in Kumasi. The program is part of the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) 2024 manifesto. It aims to create and support at least 10,000 youth-led businesses each year.

The Ministry of Youth Development and Empowerment leads this initiative through the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP). It targets Ghanaians aged 18 to 35. Participants will receive skills training, mentorship, startup capital, and essential equipment.

New businesses will also enjoy a two-year exemption from corporate and personal income taxes. The government has allocated GH₵100 million in the 2025 Budget to start this program. This shows their commitment to youth empowerment and economic growth.

On Wednesday, April 30, 2025, President Mahama will launch the National Apprenticeship Programme (NAP). This event will take place at the University for Development Studies (UDS) Auditorium in Tamale. The NAP aims to provide vocational skills to tens of thousands of Ghanaian youth.

These initiatives reflect a strategic approach to tackling youth unemployment. They focus on entrepreneurship and skills development. This positions Ghana's youth as key players in national economic transformation.
