Professor John Gatsi, Dean of the University of Cape Coast Business School, has endorsed Ghana’s 2025 growth projection of 4.4% but stressed the need for prudent fiscal management to maintain credibility.
Speaking at a parliamentary workshop on the 2025 budget, he commended efforts to reduce the fiscal deficit from 7.9% to 3.1% and shift the primary balance to a 1.5% surplus. However, he warned that achieving these targets requires realistic growth strategies and strict policy execution.
While Ghana’s 2024 economic growth of 5.7% exceeded regional averages, the country still lags behind ECOWAS benchmarks on inflation, budget deficit, and structural reforms.
He emphasized that the success of fiscal measures depends on disciplined implementation, urging a balance between economic consolidation and social investment.
