Professor John Gatsi, Dean of the UCC Business School, has urged the new Bank of Ghana Governor, Dr. Johnson Pandit Asiama, to compensate owners of collapsed indigenous banks to restore investor confidence and fairness in the banking sector.

He proposed a National Reconciliation Commission-style platform for affected bank owners to receive a formal apology.

Prof. Gatsi emphasized the need for policy assurances to prevent future arbitrary bank closures, warning of potential investor distrust. He criticized the BoG’s banking sector cleanup, arguing that some banks were unfairly shut down despite addressing liquidity challenges.

He also pointed out that government agency debts contributed to the crisis.

While acknowledging Dr. Asiama’s commitment to banking sector reforms, he urged bold actions to rectify past injustices and create a stable financial environment.
