Prof. Maxwell Darko Asante has been appointed as the new Director of the CSIR-Crops Research Institute (CSIR-CRI), effective February 1, 2025. With over two decades of experience in agricultural research, particularly in rice breeding, Prof. Asante succeeds the late Prof. Moses Brandford Mochiah.
Prior to this, he served as Deputy Director of CSIR-CRI and led the institute’s Cereals Improvement Programme. His research has resulted in the development of over 20 climate-resilient rice varieties.
Prof. Asante’s career has earned him numerous accolades, including the 2018 National Best Agricultural Scientist award. He holds advanced degrees in plant breeding and strategic management and has led projects funded by prominent international organizations.
Under his leadership, CSIR-CRI aims to tackle challenges like climate change and food security, promoting innovation and collaboration in agriculture.
