An Accra High Court will review new disclosures in the trial of James Gyakye Quayson. He is the Member of Parliament for Assin North.
The prosecution informed the court, led by Justice Mary Maame Ekua Yanzuh, about these new filings. Mr. Tsatsu Tsikata, Quayson's lawyer, confirmed they received them. However, he stated that they believe these disclosures are irrelevant.
Quayson faces five charges: deceit of a public officer, forgery of travel documents, making a false statutory declaration, perjury, and false declaration for office. He has pleaded not guilty and was granted bail.
The prosecution argued that their new filings should not delay the ruling on the no-case submission. They claimed it was an abuse of court to provide further disclosures after being ordered to do so.
Mr. Tsikata noted that orders were made in December 2024 for these disclosures. The prosecution did not comply but requested more time instead. They were given additional time but still failed to meet the requirements.
He emphasized that their compliance with court orders was timely and necessary. The case has been adjourned until April 9, 2025.
