President John Mahama has called on the new leadership of the Bank of Ghana Governor Dr. Johnson Pandit Asiama and his First Deputy Governor to protect the bank’s independence.
Speaking at Jubilee House on February 25, shortly after swearing them in, he stressed that safeguarding the central bank’s autonomy is vital for restoring public trust and strengthening the economy.
He urged them to adhere strictly to the bank’s legal and regulatory frameworks and to practice responsible fiscal management.
The President also committed to ensuring that he would not politicize the central bank, emphasizing that it should operate solely according to its mandate.
Mahama concluded that maintaining an independent central bank is the only way to achieve a resilient and robust economy.
