Reduce fares or face sanctions - Transport Unions warn 'stubborn' drivers

Transport unions have warned drivers to comply with the recent 15% fare reduction.

Drivers who refuse to implement this change may face sanctions.

A joint press release from various transport unions announced this warning.

The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) and Concerned Drivers Association signed the release.

They urged the public to report any non-compliant drivers to their offices or the police.

"We urge all drivers to adhere to the fare reduction," the statement said.

The 15% fare cut started on Saturday, May 24.

This decision followed the cedi's appreciation against major currencies and lower fuel prices.

Some drivers are ignoring this directive, prompting a strong response from transport operators.

The unions promised to work hard for compliance with the fare reduction.

Passengers are encouraged to report any drivers who do not follow this rule.

Non-compliance will lead to sanctions, but details of these penalties are not provided.
