Economist and Dean of the University of Cape Coast Business School, Prof. John Gatsi, has urged the incoming John Mahama administration to focus on reducing food inflation, which has surged to 25.9% in November 2024 from 22.8% in October.
He emphasized that high food costs burden households, especially those with limited income.
Prof. Gatsi suggested that the administration should increase food production and invest in agriculture, particularly in rural areas where most food is produced.
He recommended that the Ministry of Agriculture reassess its strategies and set clear targets to lower food inflation. Such investments, he noted, would not only help reduce food costs but also stimulate broader economic growth.
