Restore Local, an initiative led by the World Resources Institute (WRI), has officially launched to accelerate community-driven land restoration across Africa. It supports local organizations and entrepreneurs in restoring degraded landscapes, strengthening resilience, and driving conservation efforts.
Focused on Kenya’s Greater Rift Valley, Ghana’s Cocoa Belt, and the Lake Kivu & Rusizi River Basin, Restore Local enhances access to finance, technical capacity, policy reforms, and impact monitoring.
Since January 2023, it has facilitated the growth of 21.6 million trees, restored 50,000 hectares, and created 62,000 jobs. The initiative continues expanding by partnering with organizations like Afrex Gold and Tropenbos Ghana, fostering sustainable restoration efforts.
By uniting communities, policymakers, and investors, Restore Local transforms grassroots actions into large-scale environmental and economic impact.
