SIM Card re-registration goes digital in June to eliminate queues – Sam George

The SIM card re-registration exercise will take place in June. It aims to be queue-free. The process is designed for efficiency and convenience.

Minister Sam Nartey George announced this during a visit to Margins ID Group. This visit occurred on April 8, 2025, in Accra.

Citizens can register their SIM cards online. This reduces the need to visit registration centers physically. The system will verify citizen information automatically, speeding up processing times.

This streamlined process should save time for citizens. It also aims to improve accuracy and convenience during registration.

Background of SIM Card Re-registration

The SIM card re-registration exercise started in 2021. The government extended the deadline multiple times due to low registration rates. All SIM card holders must re-register using their Ghana Card.

Many active SIM cards remain unregistered, prompting further extensions. This situation raised concerns about data security and potential fraud through mobile apps.

The government's goal is to enhance national security with this exercise. They aim to reduce fraudulent activities linked to unregistered SIM cards. Additionally, they want accurate data on valid SIMs for better industry regulation.
