David Bruce-Appiah, Managing Director of Tanja Engineering Works Ltd., has accused Edmund Kofi Duffour Addae, Managing Director of Kumasi City Markets Ltd. (KCML), of deliberately blocking the installation of personal electricity meters at Kejetia Market for personal financial gain.
Bruce-Appiah claims that the KCML MD and his accountant are intentionally hindering progress to continue collecting high electricity bills from traders, citing examples of exorbitant charges such as GH₵473 for basic items and GH₵1,300 for services.
He alleges that only about 400 of the planned 7,000 meters have been installed, with work stalling three months into the project, and accuses them of misusing funds by withdrawing GH₵30,000 from a dedicated account.
When questioned, Duffour Addae deflected responsibility, urging reporters to speak with the Metering Committee chairman, who also refused to comment.
